A B-statement is a medical certificate Kela requires for rehabilitative psychotherapy. It must include a psychiatrist's (also child, adolescent or forensic psychiatrist) assessment of the diagnosis and rehabilitation need, and it may be no more than a year old.
What does a B-statement contain?
- Diagnosis
- Description and duration of illness
- Previous treatments
- Assessment of risk to work/study capacity
- Recommendation for psychotherapy
Where can I get a B-statement?
- Public healthcare (e.g. psychiatric outpatient clinic)
- Occupational or student health care, if a psychiatrist is available
- Private psychiatrist
Note
According to Kela's guidelines, treatment must have continued for at least 3 months after the diagnosis before applying for rehabilitative psychotherapy. For the second and third year, the treating doctor's statement is usually enough if therapy has progressed as planned. Source: Kela.
